Early life
Damm first started practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at age 15 and later learned capoeira.[2] Her brother Rodrigo is also a mixed martial artist.[4]
Mixed martial arts career
Damm faced Miku Matsumoto at MARS – Attack 1 on July 21, 2006. She won the fight via technical armbar submission in the second round.[5]
She was defeated by Matsumoto in a rematch at MARS 4 one month later on August 26 and lost a second consecutive fight when she was upset by Rosi Sexton, who submitted Damm with an armbar at BodogFight: “Clash of the Nations” on December 16.
Damm faced Molly Helsel at BodogFight – Costa Rica on February 16, 2007.[6] She won the fight via majority decision.[7]
She faced Jessica Aguilar at BodogFight – Vancouver on August 25, 2007.[8] She won the fight via unanimous decision.[9]
Damm tested positive for Nandrolone, according to the California State Athletic Commission, following tests conducted after her second-round submission victory over Sofie Bagherdai at Fatal Femmes Fighting 4 on April 3, 2008 in Los Angeles. Damm’s nanogram count was reported at 37.9 ng/mL, which exceeds the threshold of 2 ng/mL, according to CSAC official Bill Douglas. She was the first female MMA fighter to face steroid allegations in the United States and was subsequently suspended for a year and fined $2,500.[10]
Damm faced Daiana Silva Dos Santos at Bitetti Combat MMA 5 on December 12, 2009. She won the fight via TKO in the third round.[11]
She faced Aline Sério at Jungle Fight 17 on February 27, 2010 and won the fight by TKO in the first round.[12]
Damm was initially scheduled to make her Bellator Fighting Championships debut in mid-2010,[13] but was later set to be part of the one-night Strikeforce 135-pound women’s tournament at Strikeforce Challengers: Riggs vs. Taylor on August 13, 2010.[14][15] On July 28, 2010, it was reported that Damm would no longer participate in the Strikeforce tournament due to visa issues.[16] However, Strikeforce and Damm’s team worked together and managed to secure her visa in time for her to compete as planned.[17]
A random drawing was held on the day of the weigh-ins to determine first-round matchups[15] and Damm faced Hitomi Akano in the opening round of the Strikeforce tournament.[18] She was defeated by submission due to a triangle armbar in the second round.[19]
Damm was scheduled to face Mongolian wrestler Esui in a mixed martial arts bout at Fury 2 on October 9, 2010 in Macau.[20] However, the event was cancelled on October 7 by one of the promoters and fighters were temporarily stranded in Macau as a result.[21]
Damm faced Cat Zingano (née Albert) at Crowbar MMA: “Winter Brawl” on December 10, 2010.[22] She lost the fight via TKO in the second round.[23][24]
Damm next faced Tara LaRosa at Shark Fights 14 on March 11, 2011 in Lubbock, Texas.[25] She lost the fight via submission in the second round.[26]
Damm returned to Brazil on May 27, 2011 and faced Antonia “Maguilla” Deize at Amazon Fight 8. She defeated Deize by keylock submission in the first round.[27]
Damm next fought on July 21, 2011 at Iron Man Championship 10 in Salinópolis, Pará, Brazil. She was originally scheduled to face Valentina Shevchenko,[28] but Shevchenko was later removed from the card and Damm faced Sheila “Amazonia” Santos instead. Damm won the fight by armbar submission in the first round.[29]
Damm was scheduled to face Zoila Gurgel at Bellator 57 on November 12, 2011,[30] but the bout was cancelled on October 20 after Gurgel suffered a torn ACL in training.[31]
On August 17, 2012, Damm will face Claudia Gadelha at Legacy Fighting Championship 13 in Dallas, Texas.[32]
Personal life
Damm is married to fellow fighter, Luis Santos.[1]
