Xavier Foupa-Pokam (born July 3, 1982) is a French professional mixed martial artist from Paris. Foupa-Pokam is best known for his brief career in the Ultimate Fighting Championships in their middleweight division, and his long career in British MMA with promotions such as BAMMA and Cage Rage.

Mixed martial arts
An expert in Muay Thai, and trained by Cyrille Diabate (also a mixed martial arts fighter and muay thai expert), the majority of Foupa-Pokam’s victories have come via knockout, but he has shown considerable improvement in his ground skills in recent fights, four of which he lost by submission and the other one by TKO. A significant part of his career has been spent in British MMA promotion Cage Rage. He rebounded from losses to Paul Daley and Sol Gilbert by going on a five fight winning streak, including impressive victories over Cage Rage veterans Alex Reid and Tom Watson, along with a brutal knockout of Pierre Guillet. This streak however, was broken when he faced Murilo “Ninja” Rua at Cage Rage 24, Ninja pulling off a win via a second round rear naked choke.
Ultimate Fighting Championship
Foupa-Pokam signed with Zuffa in 2009 and made his debut at UFC 97 in April against Denis Kang in a losing effort.[1]
Less than one week after Xavier’s debut on the Zuffa event, he accepted another fight. The fight was at UFC 98, one event after his debut. At 98, Xavier fought Drew McFedries with the bout being aired on the main card. Foupa-Pokam was stopped 37 seconds into the first round due to strikes. [2]
After the loss, Foupa-Pokam was released by the Zuffa on June 1, 2009. Since his departure from the UFC he has only gone 2-6, being submitted in 4 of his six losses.
Television appearances
In 2007, he had an appearance in Episode 4 of History Channel documentation-series Human Weapon. In this episode, Bill Duff and Jason Chambers trained Savate in Marseille and Paris and in one particular scene, Xavier Foupa-Pokam is an instructor and translator.[3]
