The last episode of the tenth season of The Ultimate Fighter consists of four fights that will ultimately lead to the finale matchup and a chance at a $100,000 contract fighting for the UFC.

Well it doesn’t take long to cut to the chase of what the entire season has been boiling up to. Dana White actually pulls Kimbo Slice aside and asks if he wants to fight. Kimbo, considering his knee injury and that he would be fighting James McSweeney, a strong kickboxer, surprises Dana and the millions watching in turning down the chance to fight.

One thing we know is that Kimbo already has a spot to fight in the December 5th fightcard being televised on Spike TV.

The surprises continue when Scott Junk announces that the doctor informed him that there was two small tears in his retina caused by the eye poke in his fight with Matt Mitrione. Marcus, hearing the news, confronts Matt and “big baby” becomes the angry giant every was waiting to see. Marcus Jones described in great detail how he wants to “choke him into an inch of his life” and “break his arm”. Thankfully his teammates, including coach Rampage Jackson calm the big guy down and shortly after Scott Junk announces his corrective surgery was a success and he can return to fighting in a couple months.

It is time for the first of four fights in tonight’s finale episode of The Ultimate Fighter Season 10. Dana and others express their confidence in Mitrione if he shows up to fight as he is the bigger puncher over the smaller James McSweeney.

As the first round kicks off, the fighters feel each other out for the first minute, and Mitrione shows his speed by connecting on a few light, but quick punches. Halfway through the round, Matt catches a McSweeney kick and connects with a nice punch to his opponent’s jaw. As the shuffle around Matt tries for a knee bar, but James McSweeny manages to take top position and begins to control Mitrione. At this point it doesn’t take long as Matt Mitrione appears to simply wait until the squeeze gets tight enough and decides to tap.

With 1:22 left in the first round, James McSweeney gets the choke over Matt Mitrione.

The attention shifts to the next matchup of Marcus “Big Baby” Jones versus Darrill “Titties” Schoonover. Having played in the NFL for the Tampa Bay Bucs Jones says he literally just woke up one morning and decided he wanted to be a cage fighter because it sounded cool. Darrill on the other hand has a clean MMA record having fought 10 times professionally and 12 as an amateur all victorious. However, Jones is clearly the largest fighter on this season and Schoonover is one of the smallest making it all the more interesting.

We have seen earlier in the episode the bottled rage that Marcus can release with the right motivational factors present. Can he channel this to focus on a victory over the more experienced fighter? Fight number two underway.

Within 10 seconds of the fights kickoff, Marcus grabs Darrill and takes him to the ground with side control. Initiating some ground and pound which does some damage he demonstrates he can dominate Darrill on the ground. After slipping onto his back and then back to Darrill’s full guard he leverages the advantage of his height and manages to connect from that position to his opponent’s face.

With 2:28 left in the first round referee Dean stops the fight as Darrill ceases to defend himself (well because he was asleep). After witnessing the absolute domination, Rashad states that he will now call the big man Marcus “The Darkness” Jones rather than his recent pet name of “Big Baby”. At 36 years of age, The Darkness might have a new career on his hands.

Dana now announces the fights to be Roy Nelson versus James McSweeney and Brendan Schaub versus Marcus Jones. Brendan has continued to be the favorite on the betting lines for winner the competition, so there couldn’t be a better matchup for him to prove he has it. Reiterating Dana White’s comments, Roy Nelson has only impressed himself with his first two fights this season. So fighting against the small, but active James McSweeney should be a s solid matchup as well.

The tenth season can’t come to a close without one last prank by Rampage. This time he transforms the Evans training room into a pink haven full of stuffed teddies and bright pink walls sporting a disco ball and male blow-up doll to boot. As it has come to be expected, Rashad brushes off the childish antics and gets back to business.

James McSweeney prepares for the Roy Nelson fight by meditating to a Team Rashad poetry session (we hoped you watched because we are not about to elaborate on this) as Roy “Cheeseburger in Paradise” Nelson steps into the ring to fight with his morning bed head. Can there be a better intro to a fight to move forward in grabbing a $100,000 contract?

Seconds before the fight kicks off, James McSweeney tweaks his nipple hard – yes that’s right. James’ strategy is obvious from the very beginning and that is to be quicker and dance around the slower Roy Nelson. They exchange jabs during the first minute and a half. Making their way back to the center of the ocatgon after 30 seconds against the cage, they exchange shots that both connect well. Roy Nelson manages to take the top position over James after a takedown. Controlling the wrists, much like he did with Kimbo, Roy attempts to lock in his favorite crucifix. Managing to do so, he renders McSweeney defenseless.

With only 49 seconds left in the first round, the referee has to stop the fight – victory Roy Nelson over the bloodied James McSweeney.

The spats between Rashad Evans and Rampage Jackson continue and his last hope, Marcus Jones is about to step into the octagon against the top contender Brendan Schaub. Brendan clearly has much more well rounded skill, however, Marcus has impressed everyone by being in tune with his size and agility to use it to control the outcome. It is fight time!

No time passes and Marcus has Brendan on his back. Quickly gaining side control, Marcus cocks back the thunder. Marcus takes a minute to compose and jumps into a full mount. However, he unable to connect with anything as Brendan is able to make his way back to his feet, Shortly after Brendan Schaub connects with a right hand and Marcus falls like a tree. Jumping at the opportunity, literally, Brendan takes top position and continues to land blow after blow to the head of Jones.

At 2:49 remaining in the first round, Brendan Schaub validates his prediction of Marcus Jones falling once he really gets hit hard. Doing just that, Schaub secures the victory and his shot against Roy Nelson for the title of The Ultimate Fighter!

See ya Saturday…

Finalizing the most watched season of The Ultimate Fighter reality series, the Quarter Finals continue and we all await to see if the “YouTube fighter”, Kimbo Slice is given a lifeline to fight again. When most other reality shows are being replayed on TBS, The Ultimate Fighter is getting stronger with its tenth successful season. Initially the talk was surrounding Kimbo, but I think we all know the real attribution has to given to dedicated fans and aspiring fighters growing a sport that will far surpass the modern day boxing and cover the globe with entertaining events.

After recapping the back and forth Mitrione as to whether he will take advantage of opportunity before him or hand off the possibilities to an awaiting Kimbo, the episode will include a much anticipated matchup of Brendan Schaub and Jon Madsen. Madsen fought early as did Schaub so they are both hungry to get back into the Octagon to showcase their desire to be The Ultimate Fighter.

Aside from the upcoming fight, now even Kimbo is on the fence whether or not he could fight the often kicking James McSweeney. Kimbo is being teased with a possible knee injury, and the doctor confirms it is something that could bother him. Having some temporary fluid buildup, the doctor continues to explain to Kimbo that the cartilage surrounding the area of the knee has deteriorated and will continue to do so. This could cause discomfort walking much less fighting. Kimbo will have to determine what is best, but he assures everyone, the needle from a possible Cortisone shot scares him more than fighting injured.

The entertainment escalates as the coaches challenge gets underway. This year’s challenge is beach volleyball. Hosted at the Palms resort, the stand-up fighters put their talents on the sand and quickly it is all tied up 1 to 1. They take it to the wire, but Rashad continues to put it to Rampage. Oh well, at least Rampage has his acting career – just jokes Quinton!

Rashad makes an executive decision and calls in The Dana to give the “know if you are a fighter” speech. Just one more thing to hang on Mitrione’s mind as to whether or not he wants to step up or nobly give the spot to someone that desires it a bit more. I will take the odds on him not fighting or at this point I just hope he doesn’t. Enough of the what could be, and back to what is about to be – it’s fight time!

After feeling each other out around the octagon, Madsen takes Schaub for a nice ride as he picks him up high ultimately to slam him back down to the ground. Schaub on his back the inch around the floor until the ref stands them back up. Having a strong wrestling background, Madsen seems to be controlling Brendan a bit easier, however the long arms of Schaub are able to connect with some nice body shots as they switch position around the fence. Brendan Schaub connects with a nice straight as Jon Madsen comes in for a takedown, but before long, Schaub is once again in the air and slammed onto his back.

Round 2 starts as I notice the show ends in 5 minutes, so my eyes are peeled. Schaub seems very determined sending some solid knees Madsen’s way and is able to shake him off soon after when he attempts a takedown. Brendan finds his distance with a few air jabs and then launches a right hand and connects. Throwing an additional flying right as Madsen lays motionless on the Octagon floor seals the deal and the ref runs in to stop it. At 3:20 remaining in the second round, Brendan Schaub advances.

Moving right along in this season of The Ultimate Fighter with only four fighters awaiting their fighting chance to be in the finale of TUF 10 Heavyweights. The week’s episode starts as the rest in showing the constant bickering between Rampage Jackson and Rashad Evans. At this point it is hard to watch in knowing that Rampage’s retirement will likely mean no fight between the two.

Scott Junk will take on the ex-NFL Matt Mitrione leaving Big Marcus Jones and Mike Wessel to fight next week. Everyone watching has been waiting for Matt to get in the octagon so he can put up or shut up. I would bet on the latter. Matt may be a bit crazy right now, but Scott Junk just might be able to focus his experience and knock a few more screws loose. Scott Junk seems to come to the ring with more than MMA experience, he comes with heart. Being the great white hope for Team Rampage, Junk would actually be the first win for the team this season. I gotta get a beer and some pretzels for this one.

Crazy Matt Mitrione decides to go after a teammate in a sparring session because he mentioned he felt like slapping Matt in the face. This stirred up Rashad Evans and he gave Matt a bit of a tongue lashing. Rashad has obviously lost respect for “Meathead” as he has been calling him, as this is the only person on his team that he has truly made fun of during the season. First questioning his previous shoulder injury, now with Matt focusing his anger toward a teammate is driving Evans up the wall.

After seeing Sims dress up as a ninja and antagonize Matt to no end, it is fight time. The fight starts with Matt knocking Scott on his ass early, twice! Matt is leaving himself open, but is doing what it takes. Each time he knocks him down he pauses to let him back up. He obviously wants to keep it standing. Scott continues to not look that impressive as he fails at his takedown attempts and continues to take the in and out jabs from Matt Mitrione. With two minutes left in the first both fighter are breathing heavy, mouths open.

An exhausted Mitrione continues to leave his hands downs and during the last minute of the round takes several punches to the jaw from Junk. I am already preparing to eat my words as are several TUF cast members.

Round 2, Matt still seems to be a bit winded. Punches are light and have no power behind them. Scott Junk takes advantage by talking this to the ground. Junk isn’t doing much from top though connecting only a few times. Matt actually gets a few connects of his own from the bottom until the ref stands them back up. Continuing with playground quality jabs, Matt still manages to keep Scott away with them. At one point they both take a stroll around the ring to catch a breath. I didn’t wuite see the “bombs” Dana White exclaimed he saw in the fight. I can only assume he was talking about round 1.

However, after two rounds, the fight is stopped as the judges came to a decision. Scoring a 19-19, 20-18, 20-18 decision, Matt Mitrione moves on – unbelievable! He has earned a few more weeks of talking smack.
