Mauricio Rua talks about his win over Machida

In a recent interview after his win over Lyoto Machida, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua commented on his success this time around. This came in UFC 113 and after the first matchup where most people gave him credit for winning anyway although the judges saw it differently.

“I think now I’m a different fighter than I was back then,” Rua said. “I think now I train much more based on my opponent because I think this is the evolution of MMA nowadays.”

When asked who may be next for him, he commented, “The only guy I wouldn’t fight is Wanderlei Silva because he’s a great friend of mine. Other than that, whoever the show wants me to fight, I’ll fight. I’m a professional fighter, so I don’t care.” Many suspect the matchup will be between Rua and the winner of the upcoming bout between Rashad Evans and Quinton Jackson.

Shogun Rua: Not Machida’s Fault

“This rematch is much wished because it’s a title shot for the world championship. It’s my biggest interest. I’m sure worried to achieve my dream and the revenge comes on the second plan. I was choked for that loss against him, but Machida has no blame. The judges are the guilty who were the only three people in the world that understood he won the fight.”

- Mauricio Rua speaking about his controversial decision loss to Lyoto Machida at UFC 104 and his desire for a quick rematch. Although he dominated a large majority of the fight, Rua inexplicably dropped a five round unanimous decision (48-47, 48-47, 48-47) to Machida and is seeking an immediate rematch (now verbally committed to on both sides). Most observers felt that the decision was one of year’s worst.
