Anthony Johnson Vs Kevin Burns

Leading up to the Silva vs Irvin matchup, this undercard fight was nothing short of exciting.  Burns with a 7-1 record to begin the fight and Johnson with a 5-1 record, these two fighters were ready to get it on.

Fists were flying right away especially from Burns.  Burns kept the knees coming as the stayed entangled the first minute fo the fight.  He kept connecting with several good shots.  He obviously was trying to keep the pace going until Johnson gave Burns a swift kick in the nuts (accidental when trying for an inside leg kick).

From there Johnson had a huge takedown or Burns.  Burns kept a close guard but Johnson still managed to get a few solid elbows in.  Overall Burns kept control.  After being stood up the fists once again were flying.  Against the fence Burns repeated several shots to the body and the first round came to a close.  However, Burns was bleeding from the nose.

In round two, it was much of the same with Burns being the aggressor.  Johnson answered with a huge knee which shook Burns.  Continuing to trade shots, righthands, left hooks, leg kicks, Johnson winning most of the exchanges.

Burns mailed Johnson with a kick to the head, but Johnson followed with another big takedown.  At this point both fighters appeared fatigued.  No wonder, this has been a fight of action.  Round 2 closes with a third takedown from Johnson after taking Burns airborne.

Round 3 started much slower than the first two with both fighters feeling each other out with a few weak kicks.  Johnson had another takedown but as with the frist three hasn’t down much when on the ground.  The ref stood them up once again, but Johnson gets another takedown almost right away.

After numerous warnings for finger poking, one actually took Johnson to the ground.  A quick left jab with an openhand, drove Burn’s finger right into Johnson’s right eye.  The fight was stopped as Johnson laid on the ground.

Burns gets a TKO win as the fight had been stopped.  Unfortunately a very weak ending to very strong fight.
