Description
Tiger Muay Thai was founded in 2003 when William McNamara defined the business model and philosophy that would come to characterize the gym. Prior to starting Tiger Muay Thai, McNamara had been running a successful Muay Thai camp in Koh Samui, but he wanted to create a more professional and structured environment. Initially, business was slow. But after a few years, word began to spread about the quality of training at Tiger Muay Thai. Professional fighters from all over the world started making the pilgrimage to Phuket to train at the state-of-the-art facility. The camp started small, with only two boxing rings beneath a thatched roof. There were few restaurants or gyms nearby, and most of the 1.5-kilometer road was made up of rubber tree plots, food stalls, and sleeping quarters. When Tiger opened its doors, it was the first business to grow on the soi and really kicked off Muay Thai tourism. Other academies existed around Chalong, but none had the same effect as Tiger. Through its excellent training and digital marketing, Tiger fitness camp quickly became one of the most popular gyms in Phuket. With such a passionate customer base, it built a strong online presence that allowed it to reach new customers. Additionally, many members kept coming back, which helped create a family-like atmosphere at the gym. After selling Tiger to a group of Thai businessmen in 2015, one of them – Viwat Sakulrat – became the managing director. To build on the pre-existing success of the business, Sakulrat and his partners made some changes. They renovated and expanded the Phuket gym to 9,200 square meters. The new equipment included heavy bag stations around the perimeter, five boxing rings, and a pro-size mixed martial arts cage in the middle, with strength and conditioning stations replacing outdated exercise machines. To top it off, they brought in 40 expert trainers from all over to teach classes at the Gym.
What Sets Tiger Muay Thai Apart?
So, what is it that makes Tiger Muay Thai so special? First and foremost, it’s the quality of the training. The gym has assembled a team of world-class trainers that include former Lumpinee Stadium champions and other world-class athletes. The trainers have decades of experience between them and know exactly what it takes to prepare a fighter for competition. In addition to top-notch trainers, Tiger Muay Thai also provides its athletes with everything they need to succeed. The spacious accommodation is comfortable and modern, and the on-site restaurant serves healthy meals that are tailored to each fighter’s specific nutritional needs. There’s even a massage parlor where fighters can relax and recover after grueling training sessions. A pool, a sauna, and a steam room are also available to help fighters relax and recover. And when they’re not training or resting, fighters can take advantage of the many activities that Phuket has to offer, including scuba diving, rock climbing, and exploring the many temples and beaches. It’s no wonder that so many elite fighters have made Tiger Muay Thai their home away from home.
