There are few martial artists in the world as accomplished as Alex Pereira. This Brazilian kickboxer has dominated his opponents in some of the biggest stages in the sport. But how did he get to where he is today? In this biography, we will take a look at Alex’s life and career and see how he became one of the most feared fighters in the world.

The Early Days

Alex Pereira was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on July 7, 1988. When he was just a child, Alex’s had to start working at an early age, at only 12 years old, so he could support himself and his family. Working at a tire shop at only 12 years old, he was bound to be influenced by his older colleagues, who got him into drinking. Alex, unfortunately, at a young age, developed an alcohol addiction.

In order to get rid of his addiction, Alex started training in kickboxing. It was there that Alex would develop a passion for martial arts. Alex quickly began to excel in kickboxing, and soon enough, Alex started competing at a high level.

Glory Championship

Alex won his first Glory tournament in March of 2014. At the Glory 14: Zagreb – Middleweight Contender Tournament in Zagreb, Croatia, Alex beat Dustin Jacoby and Sahak Parparyan to win the first high-level professional tournament of his career.

Next on the list for Alex was the Glory 17: Los Angeles – Last Man Standing tournament. If you are not familiar with the Glory promotion, it is one of the best, if not the best, kickboxing promotions in the world. It is filled with killer fighters from all over the world. The Last Man Standing tournament is meant to pit the best fighters in the world against each other in a winner takes all tournament, where only the toughest fighters come out on top. Alex lost his quarter-final fight against eventual champion Artem Levin.

Pereira went on to win five of his next six fights, only losing to a kickboxing legend that is Artur Kyshenko. Two of his five wins would come into play later in his career since these two wins are against the current UFC Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya, who Pereira is most likely set to fight next.

Pereira went on to defend his title four times and then decided to move up a weight class to fight for the Glory Light Heavyweight Championship belt. Alex won the fight via third-round TKO and became the first double champion in the promotion’s history.

Pereiras MMA Career

Pereira made his MMA debut in 2015, where he lost via submission. After securing two victories, Pereira signed a contract with Legacy Fighting Alliance, where he defeated Thomas Powell via first-round knockout.

In September 2021, Pereira signed with the UFC. He made his debut at UFC 268 on November 6, 2021. Pereira won the fight vs. Andreas Michailidis via second-round TKO. Pereira went on to face Bruno Silva, who he outstruck for all three rounds and secured a unanimous decision win.

In his latest fight, Pereira was faced against a top-notch trash talker Sean Strickland who he easily put away via KO. In the first round.

We hope that Pereira’s future in the UFC is a bright one. It looks like the fans want a fight between Pereira and Adesanya. Will the third fight play out any different, or will Pereira’s left hook once again be the undoing of Israel?

Fun fact: The nickname “Poatan” fits Alex really well since it translates to “Stone Hands”.
