Invicta FC is a force to be reckoned with in the world of mixed martial arts, and you can bet that they will only continue to grow in popularity in the years to come.

Introduction

Invicta FC is the largest all-female MMA promotion in the world, and it features some of the most talented female fighters in the sport. Invicta FC hosts events on a regular basis and their fights are always action-packed. The organization has held events all over the United States, as well as in Canada and England. Invicta FC has a television deal with UFC Fight Pass, allowing fans worldwide to watch their events.

How Invicta Fighting Championships Started

Invicta Fighting Championships was founded in 2012 by Shannon Knapp and Janet Martin. Shannon Knapp saw the potential for an all-female MMA promotion when she was working for Strikeforce. After the UFC bought Strikeforce, Knapp decided to start her own organization that would focus on female fighters. She recruited Janet Martin to help her with the business side of things, and Invicta FC was born.

First Invicta FC Events

The promotion held its first event in April of 2012 and was held in Kansas City, Kansas. The main event featured a rematch between former Strikeforce women’s bantamweight champion Marloes Coenen and Romy Ruyssen, with Coenen coming out victorious. The first event was not televised but could have been streamed through the Invicta FC website.

The fourth event of Invicta FC aired live via internet pay-per-view and featured the promotion’s inaugural strawweight title bout, which took place in January. In the spring, a flyweight champion was crowned, but it was only the beginning of what lay ahead.

The promotion’s sixth event aired on televised pay-per-view in the United States and Canada. In the main bout, a new featherweight championship was established. In late 2013, Invicta FC’s fifth and final title was awarded in the bantamweight class at Invicta FC 7.

Following Invicta FC 7, a deal was announced in which Zuffa purchased the contracts of eleven Invicta FC fighters, including straw-weight champion Carla Esparza. Joanne Calderwood, Felice Herrig, Tecia Torres, Bec Rawlings, Alex Chambers, Paige VanZant, Juliana Lima, Rose Namajunas, Emily Kagan, and Claudia Gadelha were other fighters named in the purchase. It fueled speculation that Invicta FC was disbanding since months passed without any word of Invicta FC 8.

Shannon Knapp struck a deal with Zuffa to exclusively distribute Invicta FC’s events on UFC Fight Pass. The first event to air on Fight Pass would be Invicta FC 8. Invicta FC has held 53 events as of July 2022.
