It seems Conor McGregor may be set to make his long-awaited return to the UFC. According to UFC President Dana White, they will be discussing the Irish superstars future with the company this weekend in Liverpool
McGregor is still undoubtedly the biggest name in the sport of mixed martial arts.
“The Notorious” has a long list of achievements which no other fighter can compare to. McGregor was, of course, the first fighter to simultaneously hold two UFC weight-class championships and the first Irish champion in the promotion. Aside from this, the 29-year-old also:
- Allegedly had members of the Irish mob after him following an attack on a man associated with Dublin gangsters
- Was the first UFC champion to pick a fight with a bus
- Was the first UFC champion to pick a fight with a Bellator referee
The Dubliner will meet with UFC president Dana White while he is there for the upcoming Darren Till vs. Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson bout in Liverpool, White told ESPN on Wednesday.
“We’re going to sit down and talk about his future and what’s next,” White said.
McGregor is deal dealing with certain legal issues arising from his alleged attack on a UFC fighter van following UFC 223 on April 5. in New York. McGregor was charged with three counts of assault and one of criminal mischief and will need to answer those charges before a New York courtroom on June 14.
“I have nothing to do with the legal issues, he’ll need to figure that out on his own,” White said.
“Obviously, he has to deal with [his legal situation] in June,” White said. “I’m flying to Liverpool this weekend for a fight there, and he and I are going to meet in Liverpool.”
McGregor has not been seen inside the Octagon since his historic victory over Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 in Nov. 2016. Having been stripped of his lightweight title recently, it is not yet known what incentive will be used by the UFC to lure him back to the cage. It’s probably money, though, right? It has to be, doesn’t it…
Well, what else would it be? A crack at the heavyweight title?
