UFC Strike: A Guide to Collecting UFC MMA NFTs

No matter in which camp you are, either the one that believes that NFTs are a bubble or the other that swears by them and their functionality and uniqueness as an asset class. UFC is never too far behind when it comes to catching up or “cashing in” current trends,  and they have done so again with the recent launch of their new site, UFC Strike, which gives you the ability to buy NFTs of some of the most iconic moments in UFC history. UFC Strike gives you the ability to own and trade officially licensed video NFTs of the most memorable moments straight from the Octagon.

UFC Strike

The UFC has partnered with blockchain platform Dapper Labs to launch a series of digital collectibles. The collectibles, which are non-fungible tokens (NFTs), are available for purchase on the UFC Strike website.

We’re excited to partner with Dapper Labs to bring UFC’s rich history to life in the form of digital collectibles,” said UFC President Dana White in a press release. “Our fans are always looking for new ways to engage with UFC, and we think this is a great way for them to do that.”

This is not the first time that Dapper Labs has partnered with a major sports organization. In 2019, the company launched NBA Top Shot, a digital collectibles platform featuring moments from NBA games. NBA Top Shot has been a huge success, with some NFTs selling for over $100,000.

It’s unclear how successful in the long term UFC NFTs will be, but it’s certainly an interesting experiment. It will be interesting to see if other major sports organizations follow the UFC’s lead and launch their own NFTs.

What Is An NFT?

So what exactly is an NFT? In simple terms, an NFT is a digital asset that is stored on a blockchain. This means that it is unique and cannot be replicated, which makes it valuable. You can think of it as a virtual piece of art or a rare baseball card. The difference with an NFT is that you can actually do something with it, like trade it or sell it. Well, actually, you can do that even with physical cards, but that isn’t the point right now.

UFC Strike Moments

Moment NFTs are unique, limited-edition NFTs of the most iconic video highlights that have ever happened inside the OctagonOctagon. On UFC Strike, you can purchase NFTs of some of the most memorable moments in UFC history. These include things like Conor McGregor’s knockout of Jose Aldo and Ronda Rousey’s submission of Miesha Tate, and a Khabib Nurmagomedov card commemorating his victory over Justin Gaethje at UFC 254. The UFC NFTs feature a variety of fighters and moments from the promotion’s history. The lower the serial number of the token is, the more likely it is to be considered valuable and rare in the future.

Each of these moments has been turned into an NFT and is available for purchase on the site.

Some of these UFC Strike Moments are worth serious money, with the most expensive one currently being McGregor’s knockout of Aldo, which is going for over $100,000. Of course, not everyone has that kind of money to spend on an NFT. This is why UFC has also introduced UFC Hype tokens.

Rarity Of The UFC Strike Moments

UFC Strike Moments are minted in five different tiers of rarity, which include:

  • Fandom: Uncapped
  • Contender: 5,000 to 25,000
  • Challenger: 250 to 2,500
  • Champion: 25 to 99
  • Ultimate: 1 to 10

The numbers next to them indicate the number of tokens that will be available for each tier.

You can see how these are divided down below.

The UFC Strike Marketplace

The UFC Strike Marketplace went live on the 25th of March 2022. The marketplace will allow fans to buy and sell UFC digital collectibles. The first series of NFTs is currently available for purchase on the site, with more planned for release in the future.

How do you buy UFC Strike digital cards?

To buy UFC Strike digital cards, you first need to sign up for an account on the UFC Fight Pass website. Then, you can add funds to your account using a credit or debit card, PayPal, or cryptocurrency. Once you have funds in your account, you can browse the UFC Strike store and purchase cards that you like. You can also purchase UFC Strike card packs, which will give you a random selection of cards.

What Can You Do With These UFC Strike Moments?

So what can you do with these UFC Strike Moments NFTs? Well, first of all, you can trade them like any other NFT. But there is also a special feature on the site that allows you to “hype” up a fight by purchasing Hype tokens. These tokens are used to predict the outcome of fights, and if you correctly predict the winner, you will earn rewards in the form of more Hype tokens. You can then use these Hype tokens to purchase more UFC Strike Moments NFTs or cash them out for real money by selling them to another UFC fan.

Collection Challenges

Collection Challenges give you the opportunity to gain a reward if you meet the requirements set before each eligible event. For example, for UFC 275, you would need to own all 15 of the required contender moments to be eligible for a reward (Moments such as Aleksandar Rakic Contenter Moment, Andrea Lee Contenter Moment, and 13 more) and one of the Challenger or Fandom Moments.
