Entirely Indisputable World MMA Rankings

Original Publish Date: April 27, 2010 (3rd Edition) Below is the third edition of our “Entirely Indisputable World MMA Rankings”. Now, we may be a bit biased, but, we think that these are the most accurate MMA rankings on the web today. A lot of work went into our MMA rankings – they were painstakingly compiled over multiple pints of beer. The process was simple without any complicated analysis – our rankings are based solely upon who would win if two fighters matched up in the near future. Some rankings take into account wins vs. losses, common opponents, strength of schedule, etc. Not ours! What you see is what you get – Lesnar would beat Barnett, King Mo would beat Franklin, Sonnen would beat Belfort… you get the idea. Comments and/or justification of the rankings at the end of each division.

#10 Ranked Pound for Pound Name: Jake Shields Country: United States MMA Record: 25-4-1 Current Organization: Strikeforce Links: Fighter Homepage | Official Clothing
Pound for Pound Comments: Anderson Silva is in dire need of a challenge – his boredom during fights is creating havoc for the UFC. Chael Sonnen thinks he might just be the man to restore order to Middleweight. Georges St-Pierre has now won seven in a row and has essentially cleaned out Welterweight. Fedor Emelianenko looks for his 29th win in a row against Fabricio Werdum on June 26. Jose Aldo dominated a very tough Urijah Faber at WEC 48 – he looks unstoppable at 145 lbs. Frankie Edgar and BJ Penn appear on the list and seem destined for a quick rematch – what was up with Penn? Shogun and Lyoto Machida will settle their arguments at UFC 113 on May 8 (smart money on Shogun?). Brock Lesnar makes his highly anticipated return against the heavy handed Shane Carwin… what, no tune up match for Brock? Jake Shields rounds out the list… c’mon, admit it, you thought he had no chance against Hendo!

Heavyweight Division

#1 Ranked Heavyweight Name: Fedor Emelianenko Country: Russia MMA Record: 31-1 (1 NC) Current Organization: Strikeforce Links: Fighter Homepage | Official Clothing

#10 Ranked Heavyweight Name: Brett Rogers Country: United States MMA Record: 10-1 Current Organization: Strikeforce Links: Fighter Homepage | Official Clothing
Heavyweight Comments: After making quick work of Frank Mir, Shane Carwin is looking to take out a potentially rusty Brock Lesnar at UFC 116 on July 3. An impressive win by Carwin could catapult him to #1 in some eyes. Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos continue to easily roll through their increasingly difficult opponents. Will Josh Barnett ever fight again? Has anyone heard from Frank Mir after his dismal performance against Carwin? Fabricio Werdum has a fantastic shot at super stardom against Fedor Emelianenko at the Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Werdum on June 26. Brett Rogers will meet an increasingly scary Alistair Overeem at Strikeforce: St. Louis Heavy Artillery on May 15.

#8 Ranked Light Heavyweight Name: Gegard Mousasi Country: Armenia MMA Record: 28-3-1 Current Organization: Strikeforce Links: Fighter Homepage | Official Clothing
#9 Ranked Light Heavyweight Name: Forrest Griffin Country: United States MMA Record: 17-6 Current Organization: UFC Links: Fighter Homepage | Official Clothing
#10 Ranked Light Heavyweight Name: Rich Franklin Country: United States MMA Record: 26-5 Current Organization: UFC Links: Fighter Homepage | Official Clothing
Light Heavyweight Comments: Shogun gets a chance to prove that he is, in fact, the top Light Heavyweight when he rematches Lyoto Machida at UFC 113 on May 8. Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal dominated a lethargic Gegard Mousasi in April… where was Mousasi’s takedown defense? Rampage Jackson and Rashad Evans will finally settle their differences at UFC 114 on May 29. “Lil’ Nog” Antonio Rogerio Nogueira is a sizable favorite (-250ish) over former champ Forrest Griffin coming into UFC 114. Jon Jones has some nasty, nasty elbows, doesn’t he? Former Middleweight Rich Franklin steps in for the beleaguered Tito Ortiz to meet Chuck Liddell at UFC 115 on June 12.

#10 Ranked Middleweight Name: Jorge Santiago Country: Brazil MMA Record: 22-8 Current Organization: Sengoku Links: Fighter Homepage
Middleweight Comments: So much for Jake Shields being a “blown up Welterweight”, Shields made a believer out of Dana White and many others with his impressive win over Dan Henderson at Strikeforce: Nashville. Anderson Silva continues to obliterate his opponents and embarrass himself with his asinine in-cage antics. Demian Maia had absolutely nothing for the “Spider”, Chael Sonnen likely gets the next crack at him. Jorge Santiago sneaks into the Top 10 as a result of his recent win over Mamed Khalidov, Paulo Filho returns to action at Bellator Fighting Championships 18 on May 13, Robbie Lawler should be fighting someone soon, and Vitor Belfort is still recovering from injury.

Welterweight Division

#1 Ranked Welterweight Name: Georges St-Pierre Country: Canada MMA Record: 20-2 Current Organization: UFC Links: Fighter Homepage | Official Clothing

#6 Ranked Welterweight Name: Nick Diaz Country: United States MMA Record: 21-7 Current Organization: Strikeforce Links: Fighter Homepage | Official Clothing
#7 Ranked Welterweight Name: Paul Daley Country: United Kingdom MMA Record: 23-8-2 Current Organization: UFC Links: Fighter Homepage | Official Clothing
#8 Ranked Welterweight Name: Dan Hardy Country: United Kingdom MMA Record: 23-7 Current Organization: UFC Links: Fighter Homepage | Official Clothing
#9 Ranked Welterweight Name: Diego Sanchez Country: United States MMA Record: 21-3 Current Organization: UFC Links: Fighter Homepage | Official Clothing
#10 Ranked Welterweight Name: Martin Kampmann Country: Denmark MMA Record: 16-3 Current Organization: UFC Links: Fighter Homepage | Official Clothing
Welterweight Comments: Georges St-Pierre has now won seven in a row after bullying Dan Hardy at UFC 111… could Anderson Silva really be on the horizon? Some nice Welterweight fights coming soon – Josh Koscheck will look to silence UK antagonist Paul Daley at UFC 113 on May 8, Diego Sanchez pops back up to Welterweight to meet John Hathaway at UFC 114 on May 29, Jon Fitch vs. Thiago Alves and Paulo Thiago vs. Martin Kampmann at UFC 115 on June 12, and mean-muggin’ Nick Diaz meets Hayato “Mach” Sakurai at DREAM.14 on May 29.

#8 Ranked Lightweight Name: Tatsuya Kawajiri Country: Japan MMA Record: 26-5-2 Current Organization: DREAM Links: Fighter Homepage | Official Clothing
#9 Ranked Lightweight Name: Gesias “JZ” Calvancante Country: Brazil MMA Record: 14-3-1 Current Organization: DREAM Links: Fighter Homepage | Official Clothing
#10 Ranked Lightweight Name: Tyson Griffin Country: United States MMA Record: 14-2 Current Organization: UFC Links: Fighter Homepage | Official Clothing
Lightweight Comments: Major changes in the Lightweight rankings as our previous top two at 155 lbs. lost – BJ Penn was shocked by huge underdog Frankie Edgar at UFC 112 in Abu Dhabi and Shinya Aoki’s one dimensional approach failed miserably against the always improving Gilbert Melendez at Strikeforce: Nashville. Aoki falls quite a bit – he surprisingly showed very little in his loss. The 10-0-1 Gray Maynard jumps up a few spots by virtue of him being the only career loss on Frankie Edgar’s resume. Kenny Florian has to like the change in Lightweight title holders in the UFC and “Captain Bulky” Tyson Griffin meets a gritty Evan Dunham at UFC 115 on June 12.
